Considéré comme l’un des meilleurs tireurs de photographies noir et blanc de sa génération, Yvon Le Marlec est décédé en août 2007.
C’est Paul Jay, premier conservateur du musée Nicéphore Niépce, qui sut déceler dès 1974 les talents de photographe d’Yvon Le Marlec, alors dessinateur au service architecture de la Ville de Chalon-sur-Saône.
Celui-ci intègre alors la petite équipe du musée et réalise ses premiers tirages : une exposition consacrée aux monnaies romaines des collections du musée Denon, des travaux en compagnie de Jean Messagier, des reproductions des collections du musée Niépce.
En 1977, Jean-Pierre Sudre l’accueille en stage pour une année. De retour au musée, Yvon Le Marlec participe aux travaux de laboratoire et réalise de nouvelles expositions « L’enfant et la marionnette », le fonds Tournassoud, le Roman Photo de Nicéphore Niépce.
