Denise Colomb has produced two major reports in Martinique, Guadeloupe and Haiti in 1948 and 1958. The first trip was initiated by Aimé Césaire who had given his first command with an invitation to join the commemorations of the centenary of the abolition of slavery in the French West Indies (1848-1948). It was returned 10 years later, with a command of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and had also taken pictures in color.
Both reports show the evolution of the Caribbean to the early development of the law of Departmentalizing, which constitute a most important theme in terms of quantity and quality (more than 9 000 pictures) in the fund Denise Columbus, outside of his work on the painters. Both dates (1948-1958) mark symbolically the great period of activity during which Denise Colomb it better expresses the humanistic vision.
