A new photography festival in France ? Why not ?
A number exist already, and it was important to find our own specificity, our own identity.
Deauville is a town of many facets. Deauville is a hospitable place, and is known the world over. Why not invite photographers for residencies and give them free reign? That is, to spend their days photographing the town, developing an individual project, exploring their own personal vision of the Normandy town.
From May 2010 to September 2011, seven photographers were thus welcomed. Recognized photographers such as David Armstrong, Charles Fréger, Lise Sarfati, Lars Turnbjörk and Massimo Vitali, or newcomers to be reckoned with such as Romain
Meffre and Yves Marchand.
All have shared their vision of Deauville, a place where most of them had never been before. Portraits, landscapes, architecture, the equestrian world… and of course the beach. But also the main event of 2011: the G8.
All these different photographs, dense, sometimes intimate or funny, hence become the first elements of a visual fund that already constitutes a living memory of the town and a photographic collection created by the photographers of today.
