In 2021 and 2022, Anne Rearick spent a few months in Le Perche region, immersing herself among the residents, their animals, and landscapes. Her photography depicts the daily experience of the worlds she delves into, celebrating them with delicacy.
“Freed from any globalizing project, she allows each person to express themselves in turn, with gazes, poses, gestures, and movement. She reconnects with this deeply humanistic photography that never looks inward, that doesn’t seek ego or identity but rather encounters the other, their equal.” (Christian Caujolle)
Whether in the United States, South Africa, the Basque Country, Sète, or Le Perche, Anne Rearick carries the same generous gaze towards individuals, capturing images that primarily convey the joy of the moment and the quality of the encounter. In addition to this rich photographic work, Rémi Coignet, a connoisseur of American photography and an accomplished interviewer, engaged in extensive conversations with the artist.
Working on long-term projects, Anne Rearick aligns herself with the great tradition of documentary photography, focusing mainly on everyday life and rural areas. Seeking a sense of timelessness, she magnifies the ordinary by exploring the nature and environment of the people she encounters while erasing signs or objects (such as brands and logos) that distract viewers from the authenticity of her narrative. She often immerses herself in places with strong identities, exploring the notion of community, which is central to her work
